How to make a baseball bet
Overview of how to make a baseball bet. Covers the most basic baseball bet, the money line.
Money lines are the most common way to make a baseball bet. One of the major advantages to making a bet in baseball using a money line is that you do not need to worry about point spreads. In addition, there is really no need to be concerned about whether a team wins and covers. When a money line is used to make a baseball bet the only concern is whether your team wins or loses.
Bettors who choose to bet on the favorite make a selection known as laying the odds. In this case, if you lay -130 this means that you would need to bet $130 in order to win $100. Traditionally, baseball bets have included 20 cent lines. If a favorite was -130 then the underdog would consequently be +110 and the bet would pay $110 on a $100 bet. The difference between the two bet prices is the commission earned by the bookmaker. Today, dime lines are also very popular as well.
Typically, the best teams will have lower odds than teams that are considered to be underdogs. That said; however, odds can vary based on the starting pitcher. As a result, it is always a good idea to keep an eye on the starting pitchers when making a baseball bet. Keeping your focus on the starting pitchers allows you to bet your money line in the most profitable way possible. One way to do this is to bet only on listed pitchers. In this case your baseball bet will only have action if both the pitchers listed actually start.
