The most common type of baseball betting option
Overview of baseball betting. Covers money lines as well as a description of over/under totals bets.
Baseball betting can be much less complex than many other types of sports, making it a favorite among individuals who are new to sports betting.
The most common type of baseball betting option is known as the money line. This type of bet involves wagering on the outcome of the game. Point spread has no affect on this type of baseball bet.
While money lines are the most common type of baseball betting, other options do exist as well. One option is leverage your risk by only betting on listed pitchers. In this case, the action will depend on both pitchers who are listed actually starting. In the event one, or even both, of the listed pitchers miss the start then there will be no action on the bet and your wager is returned.
Bettors can also choose an over/under totals bet. This type of bet is based on the total number of runs that is scored by both teams. For example, in this type of bet if the game is posted at 7 and the combined total number of runs for both teams adds up to less than 7 then the under bet wins. If the combined number of runs adds up to more than 7; however, then over bet wins. In the event the combined total hits exactly on 7 then the bet is a push.
Another option is known as the run line. This is similar to a standard point spread. A run line is fixed at 1.5 points. This means that a favorite would need to win the game with a minimum of two runs ahead in order for the bet to pay off. The underdog could lose by one and the bet would still win. This is a popular type of baseball bet because it allows bettors to bet on a favorite without wagering as much money.
