MLB Lines

What Makes a Line?

You may have noticed that every different baseball game has a different line that gamblers use when placing their bets. So, how are the MLB lines determined?

If you are a novice gambler, you may have noticed that all of the different baseball games have different lines that determine how much money you can win, or lose, on the game. Now you are probably curious as to what the factors are that the odds makers use when they are setting the MLB lines.

MLB lines are created by professional odds makers who carefully study all aspects of the upcoming game to determine which team they think will be the favorite to win. They will also determine how strong of a favorite the team will be. Sometimes there will be two teams that are very uneven in the level of players and as a result, one team will be a heavy favorite over the other. Then again, there could be two teams that are very even in the level of players and it may be very difficult to determine who the favorite will be. This is when the odds makers will begin to consider some other factors to determine what the MLB lines are going to be.

One thing that the odds makers will consider when determining the MLB lines is where the game is being played. A stadium with a closed dome tends to favor hitters while a stadium with an open dome gives the pitchers an advantage. Something else that the odds makers will consider is when the game is being played. In general, batters will be able to see the ball better during the day and this will often result in more runs being scored.
