Team Information
Known as the 'D-Backs' or the 'Snakes', the Arizona Diamondbacks started playing in 1998. On their second season the Arizona baseball team had won over 100 games and eventually won the National League West Division. By their first five seasons the 'D-Backs' had won three division titles (1999, 2001 and 2002) and one World Series.
By 2001 the Diamondbacks were led by two of the most dominant pitchers in all of baseball's history, Randy Johnson and Curt Shilling. After beating the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 in the National League Divisions Series and the Atlanta Braves 4-1 in the National League Central Series, the 'D-Backs' advanced to the World Series against the New York Yankees. In what has been called one of the most exciting series ever in baseball's history, they beat the reigning champions 4-3, to become the youngest expansion franchise to win the championship, in just their fourth season of play.
