Team Information
It was 1977 when the Seattle Mariners played their first game, it took place at the Kingdome to a crowd of 57,726. They were swept by the California Angels, 7-0. Their beginnings are plagued with bad results and bad campaigns. Out of 13 seasons, they finished 10 at the last placed or next to last. The club had to wait until 1991 to record their first winning season.
In 1979, the team hosted the All-Star Game. Although the club has had its share of stars, it has become known for it poor seasons and mediocre performances.
The best season for the club, was 2001. They matched the 116 games set by the Chicago Cubs in 1906. By the end of the season Ichiro Suzuki won the AL MVP, AL Rookie of the year and one out of three Gold Glove Awards. Since 1975, nobody had won all three in the same season.
