Team Information
Formerly known as the Montreal Expos, the "Nats" as they are known, have been relocated to Washington, DC prior to their 2005 season.
After several mediocre seasons during the 80's , the Expos rebounded in 1994, with several talented players that included Pedro Martinez, Larry Walker and Marquis Grissom. They were having an exceptional year when the 1994 baseball strike took place. It forced the cancellation of the rest of the season. After that disappointment year, the Expos started losing fans, money and players. In 2002, the MLB was forced to buy the team and hold it till they looked for a relocating city for the team. There were several options, among them San Juan, Portland, Oregon, Charlotte, North Carolina, etc.
On September 2004, the MLB finally announced that Washington D.C. would be the new home for the Expos as of 2005. The only team against this move was the Baltimore Orioles. In fact the move brought several problems between both teams that were later resolved by the MLB.
The Nationals are a member of the National League's Eastern Division and currently play at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium. They plan to move to a new stadium by the spring of 2008.
