Team Information
In 1946 the Boston Celtics were formed as part as the Basketball Association of America. Three years after, in 1949 the BAA and the National Basketball League merged into what became the NBA or National Basketball Association.
Soon under coach Red Auerbach vision, the Celtics started to become dominant. By 1956 they acquired Bill Russell who became the central player in which coach Auerbach built his ideal team in the upcoming decade. That same year the Boston team got to the NBA finals and won the first of the NBA's record of any team of 16 titles.
In 1957, the Celtics made it to the finals again but lost that season to the St. Louis Hawks, however the next eight seasons would be won by the Boston team, making this 8 season string, the longest in any professional US sport history.
