Team Information
After a $2 million expansion fee, Phoenix got its first major professional sports team on January 22 1968.
In the decade of the 70's, the Suns experienced mild success. In 1976, they finished the season with 42 wins and 40 losses. They managed beating the NBA defending champions, Golden State Warriors in the playoffs and went on to play the Boston Celtics in the NBA finals. Even though they lost the series in 6 games, the fifth game was a triple overtime classic, considered by many to be the greatest in NBA history. Suns forward Gar Heard made a buzzer beating rainbow jump shot "The Shot" to send the contest into the third overtime at Boston Garden.
