Team Information
Founded in 1945, the Rochester Royals, who would later become the Sacramento Kings, made it to success pretty fast as they won the NBL Championship in 1946. By 1948 the Royals moved to the Basketball Association of America, which absorbed the NBL in 1949 and later became the NBA. The only championship the franchise has won until today was won in 1951.
In 1957 the team moved to Cincinnati, Ohio were they stayed until 1970, leaving to Kansas City Missouri were they renamed the franchise Kings, because of the Royals baseball team of the same community.
By 1985, the Kings made their final move to what today is their home, Sacramento, California. Luck hasn't been on their side since they have only reached the playoffs only once since 1985 and 1995. Also during this time their promising point guard Bobby Hurley had a career ending car accident.
Despite all this, the Sacramento fans are very loyal and the ARCO Arena has sold out the last 312 Kings home games. The franchise is currently second to the San Antonio Spurs (nine) in terms of NBA teams with the longest active consecutive playoff season with eight in a row.
