Team Information
Now known as the Wizards, the Washington team started in as the Chicago Packers in 1961. In the next season, they were renamed as the Zephyrs, and the season after that the team moved to Baltimore, Maryland and became the Baltimore Bullets.
In 1965 the Bullets reached their first NBA playoffs as they surprised the St. Louis Hawks 3 games to 1 and advanced to the Western Conference Finals where they met with the Los Angeles Lakers. They would lose the series 4 games to 2.
In 1973 the Bullets moved to the Washington suburbs where they would become the Capitol Bullets. They would still play some games in Baltimore's Civic Center for the next 20 years as they were still a vital part of the Baltimore community.
By 1997, the Bullets felt it was time to give the franchise a makeover. Fearing that their Bullet name endorsed gun violence, the team changed its name to the Washington Wizards, the change was complete, with a brand new logo, new uniforms and new Arena.
