The Wake Forest Demon Deacons were originally known only as the Deacons however, in 1941 after defeating the Blue Devils they became know as the Demon Deacons.

From 1888-1931 the Demon Deacons were an Independent team, with the exception of 1890, 1894 and 1896-1907 when they did not have a team, from 1932-1936 they were part of the Big Five Conference, part of the Southern Conference from 1936-1952 and are currently part of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
