The Miami Dolphins played their first AFL game in 1966 and their first NFL game in 1970 after the AFL/NFL merger.
In 1972, Miami was the first NFL team to have a perfect regular and post season, winning Super Bowl VII. They also won Super Bowl VIII becoming only the second team overall to win back to back championships. They were coached by Don Shula who became the winningest coach in professional football history. The Dolphins also made unsuccessful appearances in Super Bowls VI, XVII and XIX.
