The NHL has maintained its status as the fourth most popular professional sport in America for well over fifty years. The players were virtually all from Canada and the players knew each others’ tendencies and favorite moves because the teams just played each other again and again during the regular season. I vividly remember attending a New York Ranger--Detroit Red Wing game on a Saturday afternoon in January and sitting in the second row. Undoubtedly, you could not go to the ticket window and get tickets for the second row of box seats today.
The game has changed. Rule changes have made it more open and conducive for television viewing. The sport bet on hockey remains one of the best plays on the sportsbook. Those who follow the sport closely may be able to detect opportunities to bet on hockey games in which a decided edge has been obtained. In many cases, it involves a team’s last stop on a long road trip, or some other factor that may affect the outcome of the contest.
