O’Reilly was the heart and soul of the Boston hockey franchise in the mid-70’s through the mid-80’s. When he sought out Gilles, he was establishing the defining moment in that series. The two fought toe to toe on two separate occasions and Gilles prevailed both times. The Islanders then coasted to wins to eliminate the Bruins and were never thwarted as they won the title in 1983.
