Team Information
By 1980 the Atlanta Flames, had decided to move to Calgary to become the Calgary Flames. 17 years had to pass by for Atlanta be rewarded with another expansion franchise by the NHL. The name "Trasher" came from Georgia's state bird, the brown trasher. Actually this name was a runner up for the Atlanta Flames before they finally decided going for "Flames".
Owned by Ted Turner, the Atlanta Trashers was sold in 2003 along with the NBA's Atlanta Hawks. That same year, Dany Heatley and Dan Snyder were involved in a terrible car accident that would later kill Snyder due to his injuries. Heatley, survived but suffered a bad knee injury and faced felony charges for reckless driving. By 2005 the team decided to trade Heatley to the Ottawa Senators for Greg de Vries and Marian Hossa. This would be their best season with a winning record of 41-33-8.
