Team Information
As one of the original six teams of the NHL, the Chicago hockey team was founded in 1926. They own three Stanley Cup Championships and thirteen Division Championships. The name "Blackhawks" commemorates a prominent Indian of the early1800's and is one of many US sports team to use Native American names. The founder of the team, Frederic McLaughlin served as commander on the 333rd Machinegun battalion of the 85th Blackhawk division of the United States army. McLaughlin chose the name in honor of his military unit. For a long time the name was spelled 'Black Hawks' and some others "Balckhawks" even by the club itself. Then, during the summer of 86' the problem was solved when the club officially decided to stick to the one-word name.

Since 1961, the Blackhawks haven't been able to win the Stanley Cup, making this the longest drought for any NHL franchise.

The new millennium hasn't been too good for the Blackhawks, who for some reason keep alienating whatever's left of their fans. The team's owner Bill Wirtz decided not to play home games on television and has raised ticket prices. In 2004, one of the most important Sports Channels of the industry called the Chicago Blackhawks, the worst franchise in professional sports.
