Team Information
The New Jersey Devils were known in their beginnings as the Kansas City Scouts due to a statue in the city. They stayed in Kansas City from 1974 till 1976. After only two seasons, they moved to Denver, Colorado and were known as the Colorado Rockies. They settled here till 1982, then finally moving to East Rutherford, New Jersey that same year. Since then, their home games are played in the Continental Airlines Arena, although plans have been made as of 2007 the Devils of New Jersey will play at their new arena in the city of Newark.
On June 30th, 1982 the team's name was officially changed to the New Jersey Devils by a local newspaper contest. Over 10,000 people voted. The name comes from the Jersey Devil legend. A half monster, half animal that's supposed to live in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey.
