Team Information
Based in Uniondale, New York, the Islanders or the Isles, best known by the local press, made the dream of New Yorkers of having two professional hockey teams a reality. Although,, their first season was not an immediate success, the Islanders quickly arise as a dominant force in the early 80's. They won 4 consecutive Stanley Cups, from 1980 to 1983. In fact on just their fourth season they managed to get 101. The first 100 points season in the team's history. There are few teams in any other sport that have gone that far, that fast. It would be the first out of four 100 point consecutive seasons the franchise would have by the end of the 70's.
By the mid and late 80's the Islanders continued to be competitive even though they suffered from the departure of their most talented players. In the 90's the club was sold to a group headed by Howard Milstein and Steve Gluckstern for $195 million. Despite the uncertainty the Islanders would show some improvement finishing in 4th.
