The Rangers is one of the oldest hockey clubs in history and its one of the original six teams that originated the NHL. Having won four Stanley Cups, the most recent one ended up a drought of more than 50 years. Unable to maintain the success, the Rangers lost the playoffs for 7 straight seasons.

In 2006 after one of their best regular seasons in recent years, they were swept by their rivals, the New Jersey Devils in the first round.
