Team Information
Pulled out of a contest the team held, the name Coyotes was chosen to represent the canine predator that roams the southwestern dessert. It is represented on the team's logo in the head of a howling coyote.
Originally the Coyotes were the Winnipeg Jets, one of the founding and most successful team of the WHA. Then in 1979, the club became one out of the four teams to be included in the NHL. However, the team's success wouldn't be the same they had before in the WHA. Although it reached the finals several times, it was never capable of sealing their seasons with complete victories and even with their fans support, the team's expenses and growing players salaries, the money just wasn't enough. In 1996, the club moved to Arizona to become the Phoenix Coyotes.
