Team Information
After 5,000 entries, the San Jose Sharks were selected as the new name for the new NHL's team. Since the bay area is well known for being part of the red triangle and the Pacific Ocean having at least 7 species of sharks the name felt appropriate. One of the team's marketing executives referred to the name "Sharks are relentless, determined, swift, agile, bright and fearless. We plan to build an organization that has all those qualities."

The team has recently shown some improvement as their early years marked them as one of the worst teams ever on the NHL. The season of 2003 was actually their best and thanks to an injection of youth and high energy players, the team experienced a turnaround and scored for the first time more than 100 points. They rumbled thru the playoffs, knocking out the Blues 4 games to 1, then the Colorado Avalanche 4-2 before falling to the Calgary Flames 4-2 in the Conference Finals.
