The “O/U and M/L” Explained
Betting NCAA championship games can be done through the O/U and money line bet. Learn what all of the numbers mean in this informative article.
The NCAA championship is a heart pumping time in the world of sports. Throughout March, bookies and bettors place bet like there is no tomorrow, all the meanwhile cheering for their favorite teams. In back pages across the country, you see numbers being shown that calculate point spreads and money lines for all of the popular games. Betting the NCAA championship will introduce you to a lot of mini options in the betting game, including the over/under and the money line bet.
Betting NCAA championship can be done through the over/under or the money line bet. The over/under is also referred to as the total and is a bet on the total sum of all points made by both teams in a championship game. For instance, the over/under line for the Wisconsin/Florida game might be 103. If Florida wins 66-44, the total sum of points scored is 110 and the over wins. If they have a low scoring affair with a 55-34 game, the under wins since the total is less than 103. With over/under bets, the number of points a team scores is not taken into consideration. All that matters is that the total sum goes over or under as part of your bet.
A second betting NCAA championship option is going money line. It is strictly an odds bet that doesn’t rely on parting or receiving with points to make the game even. Instead, it’s a straight up win or lose bet with money considerations. If a money line reads Southern Illinois (-220) vs. Cal State (+180) you have to bet $220 to win $100 if you’re choosing for Southern Illinois to win. On the flip side, you have to risk $100 to win $180 if you choose Arizona. This type of bet is a favorite amongst the betting NCAA championship enthusiasts.
Typically, the O/U and moneyline are trademark bets of baseball, but much success could be had with its inclusion in the NCAA championship. Once again, finding value is the name of the game with these types of bets. If you find a total particularly low with two high octane offenses, it might be time to jump (make sure to research beforehand for signs of injuries, benchings, etc.)
