2005 Superbowl Date Even Ben Franklin Couldn’t Help the Eagles
The 2005 Superbowl date is a reminder of a lifetime of frustration that the Philadelphia sports fans have endured over the years. In this contest, the Eagles played well enough to cover the betting spread but not well enough to win the game.
The 2005 Superbowl date of February 6, 2005 will live in infamy for the fans of the Philadelphia Eagles. It was at approximately 9:46 PM on February 6, 2005, Superbowl date of doom, when wide receiver Terrell Owens could not catch a bomb thrown by quarterback Donovan McNabb. It was at that precise moment that the hopes of the City of Brotherly Love went down the drain. I wonder how the Patriarch of the United States, Ben Franklin, would have handled such a sports disappointment for his hometown. Perhaps Ben would have vented his frustrations by inventing another gadget. Maybe he would have been bold and called Coach Andy Reid himself via his favorite invention, the telephone. Maybe Ben would have advised Coach Reid that the Superbowl is a one-shot game, and that there were no guarantees that the team would be back in the Superbowl anytime soon. Sure, the Eagles had a staunch defense. That fact, however, did not stop the best clutch quarterback in the game, Tom Brady, from slicing apart your esteemed secondary pass defense. Perhaps Ben could have suggested a “Declaration of Independence’ for Coach Reid to separate himself from embattled and beleaguered star receiver Terrell Owens, and acquire a lower maintenance and still serviceable performer.
The oddsmakers had the New England Patriots a five point favorite at game time. Conservative play on Philly’s part coupled with an aggressive Patriot defense accounted for a 14-3 half time New England lead. The Eagle defense stiffened in the second half, while the offense was one long toss in the fourth quarter from McNabb stealing the game or at least tying the contest. The New England Patriots held on for a hard fought 24-21 victory over the stubborn Philadelphia Eagles. The fans of Philadelphia have never tasted a Superbowl Championship, and have not had a major sports title since the Phillies won the World Series of 1980. The 2005 Superbowl date of February 6, 2005 will be a day that the fans from the City of Brotherly Love won’t soon forget!
