How Point Spreads Work - You Could Go from Rags to Riches

The Dodgers had had a 4-2 lead going into the ninth inning, and they were playing at home. Giant star Matty Alou started the inning with a base hit while Dodger pitcher Stan Williams had some control problems. Before you knew it, the Giants had the lead 6-4 and Billy Pierce pitched the bottom of the ninth frame and retired the Dodgers in order to clinch the pennant for the Giants. I was a Dodger fan and I was experiencing the “Rags” at that time.

The point spread is the operative word in sports betting.
